Davido mocks Drake for his £478,000 loss bet after supporting Ngannou in opposition to Anthony Joshua
Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido didn’t miss the opportunity to tease Canadian rapper Drake after his loss of a £478,000 bet on Francis Ngannou against Anthony Joshua in a heavyweight boxing match on Friday.
Drake had posted a screenshot of the bet he placed on the bout on his Instagram page.
However, with Joshua knocking out Ngannou and winning the match in just two rounds, Drake’s bet didn’t pay off.
In the comment section, Davido playfully taunted the OVO boss for his misfortune.
Using Pidgin English, he wrote, “Ur ticket don cut,” implying that Drake’s betting slip had been rendered worthless due to the loss.
Before the fight, Davido had made it clear that he was rooting for Anthony Joshua due to his Nigerian heritage.
On his X handle, he wrote: “As a Nigerian, of course, I want AJ to win… but there’s a certain charisma that Francis possesses, coupled with his background story… he might just surprise us! Nevertheless, I have to stay loyal to the homeland.”
It was expected that the fight between the two most potent punchers in boxing would go either way, but Joshua surprised everyone by winning.
In what would have been a stunning victory over the more seasoned Joshua in just his second professional fight, Drake put £478,000 on Ngannou.
If Ngannou had done so, then Drake would have cashed out a grand total of £1.48 million after backing the underdog.
Previously posting his wager to his 146 million Instagram followers, the music icon simply stated: ‘Betting on a scary man.’
This outcome adds to Drake’s series of losses in high-stakes sports betting, leading fans to suggest that his infamous ‘curse’ had struck again.
