Young Jonn reveals the main reason for his transition from producer to singer
Nigerian music producer and singer, John Udomboso, professionally known as Young Jonn, has opened up about his transition from producer to singer, citing a deeply personal reason behind his decision.
He revealed that the passing of his mother in 2017 served as a pivotal moment, prompting him to shift his focus towards pursuing a career as a musician rather than solely remaining a producer.
During a recent interview with Nandi Madida on Apple Music’s Africa Now Radio, Young Jonn expressed the profound impact his mother’s death had on him, recounting the intense heartbreak he experienced. Following this tragic loss, he found solace in spending more time alone in his studio and gradually withdrew from producing for other artists.
Despite having recorded numerous songs during this period, Young Jonn admitted that he had kept them unreleased until then. It was only after reflection and contemplation that he made the decision to share his music with the world, marking the beginning of his journey as a singer-songwriter.
The revelation offers insight into the personal motivations driving Young John’s artistic evolution, shedding light on the emotional journey that inspired his transition from behind-the-scenes producer to a prominent figure in the music industry.
He said; “What really triggered that was back in 2017 when I lost my mum. I started spending so much time by myself. I was not turning up for my studio sessions or being in the studio with artistes, like I used to. So, I had so much music lying around, because I was recording so much. That period made me to start putting out music, because I never really planned to do that.
However, it feels so good and amazing. I feel blessed, regardless of what the outcome is. I never saw this coming, and I did not plan for it. I am releasing my debut album now, and it feels so surreal. The love has been craazy, since I started putting out music. A lot has happened in my life, and I feel so blessed, regardless of what anyone thinks.”
