My God will frustrate you all’ – Yemi Alade slams Cool FM over airplay snub
Nigerian music icon Yemi Alade has publicly accused Cool FM and its sister brand Clout Africa of deliberately undermining her career.
The singer, who recently earned a Grammy nomination for her song ‘Tomorrow‘ in the Best African Music Performance category, voiced her frustrations in a series of explosive tweets on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Yemi alleged that both platforms have banned her music for the past year following her inability to attend an event they organized.
Despite extending apologies and personally reaching out to resolve the situation, the singer claims her efforts have been met with silence and hostility.
“Take down my whole catalog from your stations @CoolFMNigeria and @cloutafrica …. God go still give me food. You’re beefing an artist for 1 full year, over your event. I didn’t go, too. I apologized and even called your oga him dey form oga no even reply my text,” Yemi tweeted, directly addressing Cool FM and Clout Africa.
The singer further revealed that she had attempted to reconcile the matter as early as January 2024 but faced continuous resistance. In another fiery post, she wrote, “My God will fight for me, and I will hold my peace. Since December 2023 … YOU’RE NOT GATE KEEPERS, and YOU ARE NOT GOD Mr Serge Noujaim and Mr Joseph Adamu …. MY GOD WILL FUSTRATE YOU ALL.”
Yemi, known for hits that have garnered international acclaim, also demanded that her entire music catalog be removed from both platforms, underscoring her stance against what she perceives as an abuse of power.
This development has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with fans and fellow artists rallying around Yemi Alade, decrying any form of unfair treatment in the Nigerian music industry. As the saga unfolds, many are calling for a resolution and greater transparency between artists and media platforms.
Yemi’s Grammy nod for ‘Tomorrow‘ places her alongside top acts like Asake, Chris Brown, Burna Boy, and Tems, solidifying her position as one of Africa’s leading voices despite the ongoing controversy.
