Yemi Alade, Tems, Joeboy, Buju, and plenty of other artists are rejoicing after receiving their first Grammy nominations at the 2022 Grammy Awards.
The nominations were held yesterday, November 23, 2021, and a number of Nigerian musicians received multiple nominations, with heavyweights like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Femi Kuti leading the list.
Yemi Alade, a Nigerian singer, received two Grammy nominations, one in the “Best Global Music Album” category for Angelique Kidjo’s “Mother Nature” and another in the “Best Latin Rock Album” category for Bomba Estero’s “Deja.”
Nigerian singer Tems also got two nominations in the “Best Global Music Album” category, with Wizkid’s ‘Made in Lagos Deluxe” and the “Best Global Music Performance” category, with Wizkid’s ‘Essence’.

Joeboy, the frontman for Empawa Africa, was also nominated for “Best Dance and Electronic Album” with Major Lazer’s “Music is the Weapon Reloaded.”
Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s Grandson, Made Kuti, also got a nod in the “Best Global Music Album” category, courtesy of a double album with his father, Femi Kuti, titled ‘Legacy +‘.
Singing sensations Buju, Terri, and Tay Iwar also got a nod each in the “Best Global Music Album” category, with Wizkid’s ‘Made in Lagos deluxe’
