Xavi reacts to four-game goalless run for prolific Polish striker.
In his last four games for Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski has failed to reach the back of the net, but Xavi seems unconcerned by the striker’s recent performance.
Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona have benefited from the Poland international’s prolific presence during his impressive career to date.
Lewandowski has scored 27 goals this season in all competitions, but only two of those have come in his last 10 games, showing that the two-time FIFA Best award winner’s output is starting to dwindle.
When it comes to Lewandowski’s form, Barca manager Xavi has no concerns because the 34-year-old is still La Liga’s top scorer as the Blaugrana inch closer to title triumph.
Quizzed on seeing his star striker hit a barren run, Xavi said: “He was successful in a large part of the season, now not so much, but the goals will come. All forwards want to score. Those who don’t score are sad, it’s the life of a forward. He’s the top scorer in the league with 17 goals, imagine how the others must feel.”
Lewandowski’s only goals since February 23 came in a 4-0 victory against Elche on April 1. In contrast, Barcelona has only scored once overall over their last three La Liga games, with Ferran Torres‘ lone goal giving them their most recent victory over Atletico Madrid.
With only eight games remaining, Barca leads Real Madrid by 11 points in the Liga standings and is on the verge of winning their first Spanish League title since 2018-19.
