Xavi blames Getafe pitch for Barcelona`s disappointing 0-0 draw.
Xavi Hernandez has deplored the condition of the pitch at Coliseum Alfonso Perez after Barcelona’s critical 0-0 draw with Getafe.
Barca kept however another clean sheet in La Liga on Sunday but once more battled to form chances within the last third amid an inevitable 0-0 draw. The scoreless stalemate is Xavi’s side’s moment in progressive diversions – the first time this ‘feat’ has occurred since 2005.
Speaking to the press after the game, Xavi was sharp to fault the state of Getafe’s domestic turf for the disappointing result for Barca, expressing that his group found it difficult to play on such a ‘dry pitch’
“The pitch held us back. We expected it, we trained on a dry pitch on Saturday. It is difficult to play here and it is not good for the spectacle. The ball gets stuck, it’s even bad for Getafe.
“It’s fundamental that the pitch is in good condition. But it is not an excuse and we have to get back on track. A point is not the worst considering how uncomfortable it was.
“We’re used to playing without the sun, to playing at night. But we have to get used to it, next Sunday we will play again at this time, I don’t want it to sound like an excuse but we have to adapt.”
Despite two winless games, Barcelona remain at the top of the La Liga table. Xavi’s side are 11 points ahead of European champions Real Madrid, who have won 23 of their 29 league games so far this season.
