Wizkid’s father addresses attacks on son from Davido’s fans
Chief Munir Balogun, father of Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, has stepped forward to address the rising rivalry between his son and fellow Nigerian artist Davido.
In a candid interview with “Punch Newspapers,” Chief Balogun shared his perspective on the tension brewing between the two iconic figures in the Afrobeats scene.
Chief Balogun expressed concern about the situation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus and unity. He urged fans to appreciate both artists’ immense contributions to the music industry rather than fueling unnecessary conflict. According to him, their impact on Afrobeats should be celebrated, not overshadowed by rivalry.
During the interview, he also recounted private conversations he had with Wizkid, advising his son to ignore the negativity and provocations coming from some of Davido’s passionate fanbase.
Chief Balogun pointed out that many of the attacks are not driven by genuine criticism but by a desire to create drama and division.
“I told my son that he shouldn’t look or listen to whatever the boys who are supporters of Davido are saying. The supporters are only looking for what they will say to collect money and all of that. They are just looking for what they are going to eat and I told him not to pay much attention to them. I’ve told my son to take things easy with them and overlook whatever they say because I don’t blame them,” he stated.
