Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ bags R&B/Hip-Hop Song of the Year at the 2023 ASCAP Awards
Nigerian record production duo Legendury Beatz, comprising Uzezi Oniko and Okiemute Oniko, were honored at the 2023 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards for their contribution to the hit song “Essence” by Wizkid featuring Tems. They received the award for Top R&B/Hip-Hop & Rap Song of the Year. The ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards is organized by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.

Dr. Luke, known for his collaborations on various hit songs, including Latto’s “Big Energy,” Doja Cat’s “Need to Know,” and Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl,” was named Songwriter of the Year.
Warner Chappell Music was recognized as the Publisher of the Year for their work on songs like Jack Harlow’s “First Class” and Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul” and “Cuff It.”
In addition, esteemed rapper and producer Dr. Dre was presented with the inaugural ASCAP Hip-Hop Icon Award, acknowledging his significant contributions to the hip-hop genre.
These awards highlight the talent and achievements of notable figures in the music industry, showcasing their impact on R&B, hip-hop, and rap music.
