Afropop star, Wizkid just made history as his song “Essence” became the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 12, 2021.
This comes after the song made its first appearance on the Billboard Bubbling Under Charts. This is a huge accomplishment for both Wizkid and Tems, who are signed to the same label, as well as African music in general.
Wizkid’s third chart appearance follows the success of ‘One Dance,’ which peaked at No. 1 in 2016. This was Tems’ debut appearance, and her launch is getting a lot of attention.
