“Essence“, Wizkid’s smash song, has cracked the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the highest-ranking African single ever on the chart.
On Monday, Wizkid became the first African to break the top 10 with his own song when the remix of “Essence” peaked at No 10 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The record was at No. 11 just a week ago. On the Shazam and Urban Radio lists, the song is also doing well. This comes after ‘Made In Lagos‘ surpassed one billion streams across all platforms.
Essence Remix is now the only Nigerian single in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. Following the success of the original song, it marks an incredible win for the three.
This would be the second time Wizkid is on the Top 10 of the Billboard 100 with the first being Drake’s “One Dance” which stayed on No 1 for 10 weeks. This would be the first for Tems on the Top 10.

Wizkid, who is presently on tour in the United States, released Essence last year as part of his Made in Lagos album.
The song, which also features Tems, gathered traction at the end of last year and then exploded this year with an incredible run that saw it reach number 82 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song grabbed the attention of pop superstar, Justin Bieber who could not resist the chance to jump on a remix.
