Since the days of Yahooze, down to Maga don pay and many more songs that praise fraud, the Nigerian music industry hasn’t gotten over such songs. Lately, some Nigerian singers have decided to be giving us Yahoo Yahoo songs these days back to back.
It all started when Naira Marley started glorifying “Yahoo Yahoo” openly via his social media platform and it eventually resulted in a song entitled “Am I A Yahoo Boy” featuring Zlatan Ibile.
At the just-concluded Tony Elumenu foundation forum which featured StarBoy Wizkid, the Nigerian singer pours out his mind stating that as an artist, you are meant to be a role model to the kids out there, not praising crime in order to mislead them.
If you are smart you will know that he’s throwing shades to the likes of Naira Marley, Zlatan, Qdot and the likes that can’t do without singing about Yahoo Yahoo.
In his speech, Wizkid said:-
“I wouldn’t want to be that kind of person, I feel like the kind of person I would want to be is to lead by example.
All I can do for myself is to continue to be successful and touch many lives that I can. And I hope that every kid out there looks at this and emulate that and also want to be brave.
When I started the music, I made just N250k and now we are talking about big numbers here. Just so you know, that you are not going to change anything by singing about yahoo yahoo.”
“It’s not enough to play a song insulting the government. We all have a role to play,” he notably said.
What are your thoughts about what Wizkid said?
