Wizkid makes history with BMI Songwriting award
Ayo Balogun, well known by his stage name Wizkid, has added another achievement to his resume with his recent success at the 2022 BMI Awards in London.
The BMI Film & TV Awards are honours given yearly by Broadcast Music, Inc. to songwriters, composers, and music publishers in a variety of genres. The 2022 ceremony took place on Monday, October 3, at the Savoy Hotel in London.
Nigeria’s Wizkid was one of the night’s main attractions after his monster records “Essence,” featuring Nigerian award-winning songstress Tems, and its remix, featuring Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, were named to the “Most Played Songs Of The Year” list.

He joins other international heavyweight singer-songwriters including Ed Sheeran, Elle Goulding, and a slew of others to be honoured by this award.
This recent feat makes a total of five BMI awards won by Wizkid, which is the most by any African artist in history.

In other news, Wizkid has provided his fanbase with something fresh to brag about for his supporters as the lyrics to his song “Jaiye Jaiye” were spotted at a British Museum.
Following the appearance of a framed image of the lyrics to their popular song “Jaiye Jaiye” online, Wizkid and Femi Kuti became trending topics.
Wizkid is no doubt one of the country’s most sought-after international export going by the great recognition he has enjoyed on the foreign scene.
His good fortune seems to have also been recognised by the British who had his song lyrics displayed at the Horniman Museum.
Wizkid and Femi Kuti’s Jaiye Jaiye lyrics were framed and housed at the British Museum, according to a post posted by DJ Timmy.
