Big Wiz Reflects on Early Industry Challenges and Aspiring Artists’ Pursuit of Collaboration
Nigerian music icon Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has shared insights into his early experiences in the entertainment industry and the pressures of being a sought-after artist.
In a resurfaced throwback interview, the “Dance” hitmaker reminisced about the times when aspiring musicians camped outside his home, hoping to secure collaborations that could catapult their careers.
Wizkid described these moments as reflective of the high demand for his artistry and influence in the industry.
Since his rise to stardom in 2010, Wizkid has established himself as a global music powerhouse, earning recognition for supporting upcoming artists like Duncan Mighty, Starboy Terri, and L.A.X. He has also worked with top acts such as Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Seyi Shay, and Naira Marley, contributing to their creative journeys.
In the interview, Wizkid revealed the challenges of generosity in the music world, highlighting that many individuals forget the support they received after achieving success.
“That’s how it is, people forget, then they come to your house sleeping in front of my gate 24/7, begging for collaboration and after you give all they want, they just bounce and that’s life,” he said.
He further shared a story about offering a 10% discount to a female artist seeking his collaboration, emphasizing his willingness to help despite the lack of appreciation from some.
