Wizkid Joins the Hype, Reacts to Shallipopi’s New Release ‘Ex-Convict

Nigerian music sensation, Wizkid, has jumped on the bandwagon and expressed his thoughts on the latest track by rising star Shallipopi, titled “Ex-Convict.” Shallipopi gained significant attention and a growing fanbase, including celebrities, after his hit song “Elon Musk” took the industry by storm.

Even before the confirmation of the highly-anticipated remix featuring Fireboy DML and Zlatan, the young artist caught the attention of the YBNL boss, who showed his support on social media following Shallipopi’s release from police custody in May 2023, where he faced allegations of fraud.

Adding to the growing list of celebrity reactions, Grammy award-winning singer and performer, Wizkid, recently took to his Instagram story to share a picture of himself listening to Shallipopi’s latest release, “Ex-Convict.” Wizkid, known for promoting his favorite Nigerian artists, clearly seems to be enjoying the new wave created by Shallipopi.

The song “Ex-Convict” holds a special significance as it was inspired by Shallipopi’s personal experience of being arrested and detained by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Kaduna.

The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest, stating that Shallipopi was among several individuals apprehended due to actionable intelligence regarding a proposed show by suspected Internet fraudsters in Barnawa, Kaduna.
