    Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known as Wizkid, made history by being the first African musician to take home an award from the 50th American Music Awards (AMAs).

    He was named Favorite Afrobeats Artiste at the American Music Awards, which were held on Monday, November 21 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

    Competitors for the Bad To Me singer included Burna Boy, Tems, Ckay, and Fireboy DML from Nigeria.

    The American Music Awards are presented to honour the most well-known musicians and performers during the eligibility period of September 24, 2021, through September 22, 2022.

    Wizkid was congratulated in a tweet on the AMAs’ official Twitter page that read:

    ”Congrats @wizkidayo !!!! You are taking home the FIRST Favorite Afrobeats Artist award! #AMAs ????”

    Reacting to the news, Starboy quoted the tweet with love emojis and his bird insignia.

    Wizkid’s Essence featuring Tems also bagged an award for the Favorite R&B song category, which has American singers, Beyonce and Sza.

    The other songs nominated in the category include Beyonce’s “BREAK MY SOUL”, Muni Long with “Hrs And Hrs”, Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak) “Smokin Out The Window” and SZA “I Hate U”
