Gerard Pique slams Barcelona board as La Liga giants’ ongoing financial problems threaten to scupper Lionel Messi return.
Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has slammed the club’s board as their ongoing financial problems threaten to derail Lionel Messi’s comeback.
The historic careers of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets at the Catalan giants came to an end last month, ushering in an era-defining summer of upheaval for the team.
Pique left Barca back in January, leaving Sergi Roberto as the lone survivor of the four ‘captains’ chosen in August 2021.
Barca’s financial issues persist despite these initiatives to reduce the pay cost, so Messi’s planned sentimental homecoming to Catalunya is far from being finished.
Pique has slammed the Barca board for the way they are handling the situation, telling the After Kings League talk show: “I’m glad I left because I gave Barca space on the wage scale. But it seems that, despite this, there are still financial problems. I wonder who should leave now. They said we are responsible for our salaries [Pique, Alba, Busquets]. Now, we’ve all left and yet they can’t sign players.”
Even if the Argentine reduced his choices by postponing a move to Saudi Arabia, Messi’s return to Barcelona seems more doubtful.
As a result of the Blaugrana’s precarious financial situation, which exists after taking Pique, Alba, and Busquets off their books, it has now come to light that MLS team Inter Miami are in the lead.
Pique left football to concentrate on business while Messi, Alba, and Busquets’ futures are still uncertain.
Both the fantasy football game Sorare and the second-division team FC Andorra have just been purchased by his Kosmos Holding firm.
Additionally, he serves as the league’s president and owner for the Kings League, a new football league in Barcelona including content producers.
