Harry Maguire edges closer to Man Utd exit! West Ham reach agreement in principle to sign out-of-favour defender for £30m transfer fee
Harry Maguire’s departure from Manchester United appears imminent, as reports suggest that a tentative agreement has been reached with West Ham for a transfer fee of £30 million.
During the earlier stages of the transfer window, West Ham had made bids of £20 million ($25.5 million) for Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and £30 million ($38.2 million) for his teammate Scott McTominay, both of which were rejected.
According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the two clubs have now arrived at an agreement in principle after West Ham submitted an improved offer of £30 million for the 30-year-old defender.
Maguire, who arrived at Old Trafford in 2019 from Leicester City in a record-breaking £80 million ($101.9 million) deal, seems poised for a fresh challenge away from Manchester United.
Despite expressing his desire to stay and compete for a place in Erik ten Hag’s team, Maguire has fallen behind Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the defensive pecking order at United. Additionally, he was replaced as the club’s captain by Bruno Fernandes.
As both Manchester United and West Ham kick off their Premier League campaigns, with United facing Wolves on Monday, August 14, and West Ham taking on Bournemouth on Saturday, August 12, the timing of this potential move remains uncertain. West Ham is keen to finalize the deal swiftly, but it’s yet to be determined which club Maguire will ultimately join.
