Watch Omah Lay’s reaction after experiencing earthquake for the first time in L.A.
Nigerian Afrobeats singer Omah Lay recently experienced his first earthquake during a podcast session in the United States, describing the event as a frightening ordeal.
The quake occurred while Omah Lay was in Los Angeles for an interview on the Zach Sang Show. During the show, he discussed his career, upbringing in Nigeria, and creative process, even revealing that a colleague had once stolen his sound, prompting him to create a new one.
Omah Lay also shared insights into the Afrobeats genre, emphasizing its diverse influences and Fela Kuti’s significant impact.
He explained, “Afrobeats is music; it’s a blend of various sounds, both local and traditional. When discussing Afrobeats, you have to mention Fela Kuti and everything he stood for…”
However, the interview was suddenly interrupted as the building began to shake, startling both the host and Omah Lay.
The host reacted with surprise, saying, “Oh wow, that’s an earthquake. Oh wow. That’s a strong one.”
Having lived in Nigeria all his life, Omah Lay expressed his amazement, “That is so weird; I have never seen or witnessed an earthquake.”

Zach responded, “Usually you can’t feel them in this building because it’s so secure; that’s wild.”
Omah Lay, looking around the room in astonishment, added, “That is crazy; something must have happened. It was scary; that was scary.”
Zach confirmed, “It’s an earthquake, and you can still feel it rumbling. That was a big one,” before checking on the well-being of everyone in the studio to ensure they were unharmed.
Despite the initial shock, Omah Lay maintained his composure and continued with the interview.
Reports indicate that Los Angeles has experienced two earthquakes in the past 24 hours, 16 in the past week, and 67 in the past month.
