Police arrest Portable after refusing to honour invitation, to spend days in detention.
Nigerian Street Hip Pop Controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arrested by men from the Ogun State Police Command after refusing to honor an invitation.
Recall, Police had invaded Portable’s recreation center because of a claimed petition against him, but Portable resisted arrest by fighting them off.
After the 72 hour-ultimatum expired without Portable honoring the police invitation, he was taken into custody on the evening of Friday, March 30, 2023.
This came after an incident in which the musician was seen defending himself against police officers who had come to his Ogun State recreation center to arrest him. The incident was caught on camera and has since gone viral.
In the video, Portable yelled profanities at the police, claiming they were wrong to enter his business center uninvited and that they had no cause to do so.
Through the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police authorities responded to the development by describing the singer’s behavior as unreasonable and accusing him of insulting police personnel who were performing their lawful obligations.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the musician’s arrest on Friday, March 30, 2023, and stated that he had been taken to the police’s state headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The police spokesman said the arrest was made after the singer refused to honor five invitations by the police.
According to some reports, Portable will spend the weekend in police custody before his arraignment which has been planned for Monday, April 3, 2023.
The musician, however, will reportedly face charges in court as soon as the police finish their investigation, according to the PPRO.
