Virgil van Dijk Reaffirms Love for Liverpool with New Contract Extension

Virgil van Dijk has spoken passionately about his commitment to Liverpool, describing his decision to sign a new two-year contract as a natural one, fueled by his deep connection to the club and the city.
After months of speculation, including rumors linking him to European giants like Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Inter Milan, the towering Dutch defender ended the uncertainty by putting pen to paper, committing his future to Liverpool until 2027.
Van Dijk‘s renewal follows that of teammate Mohamed Salah, who also recently extended his contract with the Reds.
In an interview with Liverpool FC media, Van Dijk shared how genuine his love for the club is, reflecting on the years he’s spent at Anfield and his excitement for the future:
“It always felt right. I said it from the first day on that it felt right and I think it showed in the years we have spent together up until now. And obviously more years to come.”

He added, “It is the place for me to be, to spend my best years, be successful with the club as we have been over the years and hopefully the future as well. I love the city, I love the club, I love the fans. I love my teammates. I love everything that embodies Liverpool, and on to many more.”
Van Dijk’s decision to stay also extends beyond football—he highlighted the importance of family in the process. Reflecting on the lifestyle he and his family enjoy in Liverpool, he noted that it was a place where his kids have grown up, and it felt like home to them:
“It is an emotional day, not only for myself but for my family as well. My kids are also almost like Scousers, they don’t know anything else than Liverpool, especially my two youngest.”

The emotional connection to the club, along with the sense of community in Liverpool, has made his decision clear.
Van Dijk concluded, “You live your life away from obviously where I’m from in Holland and you are living a very good life, a blessed life, but we live also that good life because of the people of Liverpool, the club, the fans. So it’s a togetherness that I really, really appreciate.”
With this renewal, Liverpool fans can look forward to many more seasons with one of the best defenders in the world, as Van Dijk continues to represent the principles and values that make the club special to him and his family.
