Show Promoters Ignored Me Because I Left My Label – Mohbad’s Last Interview Surfaces [Video]
A recently surfaced interview featuring the late Nigerian singer, Mohbad, sheds light on his experience with show promoters after leaving his record label.
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, tragically passed away earlier today, Tuesday, September 12, following a brief illness.
Amidst the outpouring of tributes from colleagues and fans, a video interview recorded last month in August at City FM has emerged.
In the video, which has been shared widely, Mohbad revealed that show promoters had stopped booking him for performances after he left Marlian Records, his former label.
He further disclosed that these promoters continued to contact his previous label, under the assumption that he was still affiliated with them. However, they were informed that he had moved on from the label, which caused his bookings to decline.
‘Show promoters don’t want to pick me up for shows because I left a label–’ he said. ‘If they want to reach out to me, they keep going back to the label, and the label keep saying “–that boy is not okay; he is going through a lot.”’
He admitted that when “One Africa Music Fest” contacted him directly to book him and asked for his “ok” to perform, he learned about the scheme.
He said, ‘One Africa Fest, they have to call me to ask me, “Bro , are you really okay? Can you do the show?” and I was like, “Why do ask if I am okay?” and they said, “The label you left said you’re not okay.”’
