Verydarkman speaks on Davido’s recent comment on Nigerian economy (Video)
Nigerian social media activist Vincent Otse Martins, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has thrown his support behind singer Davido amidst heated criticism over his comments about Nigeria’s economy.
Davido sparked a wave of reactions after advising Black Americans, particularly Nigerians, to reconsider relocating to Nigeria due to its economic struggles. Speaking on ‘The Big Homies House; podcast, the award-winning singer stated, “Nigerian economy is in shambles.” His remarks drew criticism from several notable figures, including actor Patrick Doyle, political aide Reno Omokri, APC politician Joe Igbokwe, and others, who accused him of discouraging foreign investments and painting Nigeria in a bad light.
While some criticized Davido’s perspective as damaging, others have applauded his honesty. Verydarkman, one of the vocal supporters, took to Instagram to defend the singer.
In a video, he called out those attacking Davido, urging them to acknowledge the truth of his statements.
VDM argued that Davido was not lying about Nigeria’s dire situation and criticized the backlash as unwarranted.
He suggested that the singer could have gone further by addressing the country’s pressing insecurity issues.
He remarked, “Davido didn’t lie. Nigeria’s economy is really in shambles. Davido, in your next interview, also add that there is serious insecurity in Nigeria. So because Davido’s dad has a billion-dollar investment, he should lie that everything in Nigeria is good? You all are lucky that CNN didn’t invite me for an interview—I would have said worse.”
VDM’s defence highlights the growing frustration among many Nigerians over the country’s economic and security challenges. His comments reflect a broader sentiment that honesty about the nation’s issues is necessary for real change, even if it sparks uncomfortable conversations.
As the debate continues, Davido’s remarks have ignited discussions about the balance between national loyalty and addressing critical issues to drive awareness and improvement.
