Nigerian rapper Vector has ignited a lively debate on social media after questioning why some Nigerians and Africans display solidarity with foreign election processes, notably in the U.S., despite those countries often showing limited regard for African nations.

On November 6, 2024, he voiced his concern on X, tweeting, “I will never understand Nigerians / Africans who show some form of solidarity with the election process in nations that f*ck us all for a living.”

I will never understand Nigerians / Africans who show some form of solidarity with election process in nations that fuck us all for a living.

His comment drew a wide range of reactions. Some supporters agreed, interpreting it as frustration over how foreign nations often neglect African interests, while others suggested it reflected disillusionment with domestic politics, leading people to look outward.

There was also speculation that Vector’s statement may have subtly referenced fellow artist Davido, who recently posted about voting in the U.S. election.

Vector’s remark taps into broader conversations about the significance of global solidarity versus the focus on local challenges. With more Africans showing interest in Western political affairs, particularly the U.S., the conversation raises questions about misplaced priorities, the impact of globalization, and the importance of promoting accountability and interest in African governance.

Expanding on his perspective, Vector emphasized the irony he perceives in Nigerians closely following foreign political systems while pressing issues at home often receive less attention. He questioned the value of investing energy in foreign elections, especially in countries that, in his view, may not actively support or reciprocate concern for Africa’s welfare.

In a follow-up post, he reflected, “The beauty about all the ignorance is, after the posts, they will return to the reality of their actions and beliefs. They will stifle the growth of their own land and selves by their thinking. They will cry to the God that has answered them before they came to no response. Not because the creator is evil but because they are the ones solely responsible for their own predicaments.”
