Former friends Unathi Nkayi and Somizi Mhlongo had a change of heart in 2022 and meanwhile, in a recent interview, Unathi discusses the reasons behind her breakup with Som.
After her divorce from Thomas Msengana, Nkayi claims that although the media celebrity didn’t turn against her, their friendship ended because he took a stand.
“Thomas and I got divorced. You [Gareth Cliff] and Randall Abrahams didn’t choose sides and he did. Even when we sat at the judging table and I was professional, he chose sides. It was fine for him to go on boy’s trips with Thomas, but we said you don’t cross this line now. He’d come back and speak smack about me on the same reality show, so now you’re showing you’re choosing sides.” she said.
“I don’t hate him, we haven’t fought, we just don’t have a relationship because he chose sides.”

A recent TikTok trend has gone viral in which young people document their parent’s or elder family members’ reactions to the fake news of their favourite celebrity’s demise.
Finally making its way to South Africa, the TikTok celebrity death fake trend has claimed its newest victim in Somizi Mhlongo.
On Monday, Mhlongo posted many TikTok videos to his Instagram account in which some of his supporters can be seen reacting to the news of his fictitious demise. “Dark humour……the first one killed me with laughter”. he said in the post’s caption.
A young man is heard informing Gogo (grandma) in one of the videos by @andybandeza that Somizi, DJ Tira, and Simphiwe Tshabalala perished in a car accident while travelling from OR Tambo International Airport.
Another video shows the elderly grandmother screaming after learning that Somizi had passed away from her young daughter Lebo.
