Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola has revealed why he took the decision to substitute Erling Haaland at half-time in Manchester City’s draw against Borussia Dortmund.
While City’s performance at the Signal Iduna Park was disappointing as they were held to a scoreless draw by Dortmund, they still succeeded in topping Group G of the Champions League.
At his former stadium, Haaland put in a subdued effort with just 13 touches and one blocked shot before being replaced at halftime. After the game, Guardiola disclosed that the striker had a little fever and had a knock.

“[There were] three things. I saw him so tired. Second one, he had a little bit of influenza in his body. Then the third, he had a knock on his foot. That’s why he was not able to play in the second half,” the City boss told reporters.
“I spoke with [the medical staff] at half-time and they were a little bit concerned, but I saw him walking more or less normally. We will see.”
Having spent two years with the team, Haaland did return to the stadium after the final whistle to greet the Dortmund fans. While walking, he did not appear to be in pain, but a scan may be required to determine the full degree of the injuries.
On Saturday, City will travel to face Leicester City, and Guardiola will be hoping that his top scorer will be able to play.
