Tyla has achieved a remarkable milestone by reaching 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify, solidifying her status as South Africa’s pop princess.
The breakout success for Tyla came with her viral hit song “Water,” which has gained international recognition.
This infectious track initially rose to prominence on TikTok, where it sparked a trending dance challenge. “Water” continued its ascent, eventually securing a coveted spot on Spotify’s prestigious Top 40 global chart.
Tyla has now made history as the first South African artist to reach 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify, as reported by African Folder.
“Water,” a fusion of afrobeats and amapiano, made its debut in July and has since inspired over 570 thousand TikTok users to recreate its dance moves.
The 21-year-old singer has coined her music style as “popiano,” a unique blend of pop music and amapiano.
Tyla is signed to the Epic Records label, in collaboration with Fax Records, which operates out of Johannesburg and New York and is co-managed by We Make Music and Africa Creative Agency. The global record label has previously represented artists such as Fifth Harmony, Future, and French Montana.
According to Charts Africa, “Water” now holds the second position on the top 10 Billboard US Afrobeats songs chart. Additionally, the talented South African artist has released the official music video for this sensational hit track.
