Trent Alexander-Arnold hits landmark Premier League assist number.
Trent Alexander-Arnold recorded the 50th Premier League assist of his career during Liverpool’s 6-1 victory over Leeds on Monday night.
Along with the majority of his Reds teammates, England right-back, who is regarded as one of the game’s most creative players, has had a trying season, but he was in excellent shape for the journey to Elland Road.
Alexander-Arnold set up Cody Gakpo for his first assist of the game, then in the last seconds of the second half, he reached the milestone of 50 goals by lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper for replacement Darwin Nunez to score.
The first and last goals of the game were scored by Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah, respectively, with Leeds’ consolation goal coming from Luis Sinisterra.
Alexander-Arnold had managed just two league assists before his last two games, now sitting on five after crossing for Roberto Firmino to equalise in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal before Monday night’s double.
When asked if Alexander-Arnold is a midfielder or a full-back, manager Jurgen Klopp responded: “Because it’s Trent it’s both. I think the goal for Darwin is an exceptional pass. He can be both but in general you are right we need to be better protected as well because we concede too many counter-attacks.
“Trent played a really good game but when we lost the ball the reaction was a lot different. All players we must be able to protect and for that the formations suits us much better.”
Alexander-Arnold has earned a reputation for his passing and dribbling skills after repeatedly setting up players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino over the years.
His greatest season was in 2019, when he contributed 13 assists in 38 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, helping the Reds win the title. He had managed 12 the season before.
