Twitter has removed the free legacy verification badges it gave to celebrities and important personalities, globally and now operates on paid subscription tagged, ‘Twitter Blue’.
Following the total removal of the verification ‘legacy’ badges of celebrities and top personalities from the microblogging platform, Twitter, celebrities are now open to easy impersonation.
The non-payment of their subscription price for verification, as Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, indicated, may be the cause of this recent development.
The final date for the free Blue badge removal was confirmed by Elon Musk via his verified account credentials to be April 20, 2023.
In light of this, Mp3bullet put together a list of Nigerian artistes who have and have not subscribed to ‘Twitter Blue’. Noteworthy: this list is compiled with available data as of the time of this writing.

From this moment on, the blue checkmark logo will only be attached to the Twitter username of users who pay $8 per month (or $11 per month on mobile devices). As a result, the check mark will no longer fulfill its original purpose of indicating the validity of an account.
In general, not many users have signed up so far. Out of Twitter’s purported 250 million users, just about 600,000 have subscribed. Even fewer people are paying when it comes to previously confirmed users, which include media personalities, professional athletes, musicians, and actors. Less than 5% of the 420,000 legacy verified accounts have thus far determined that it is worthwhile to pay $8 to maintain the checkmark.
