Here are the Top 10 Nigerian rap albums of 2021 as they draw to an end.
Nigerian Hip-Hop and Rap music have had a fantastic year and here are the Top 10 Nigerian rap albums of 2021.
We’ve been wowed by a diverse range of music, from underground MCs to Trap/Drill kids to indigenous spitters.
It is customary for us to use this media at the end of the year to recognize achievement in all parts of Nigeria. The second portion of the music segment is now available.
Blaqbonez – Sex Over Love
To the untrained eye, this appears to be a simple depiction of the perilous subject of sex, but there’s more to it.
Blaqbonez utilizes sex to convey his love, sheltered insecurities, and newfound high-calibre success.
Aside from sticking to a central subject, the album’s singles ‘Bling’ and ‘Okwaraji’ were commercial successes.
SDC – Clone Wars V: The Algorythm
In many ways, this album felt like the pinnacle of this legendary Nigerian duo’s career.
The album was broken down into highlighted concerns, millennial demeanour, humour, lacklustre parts, and haphazard moments.
It was also Tec’s best performance as a member of Show Dem Camp thus far.
Cheque – Bravo
Cohesion is at the heart of this EP, thanks to Cheque’s style and vocals, as well as the lovely beats he uses.
Cheque wins big when he does Afro-infused tunes like ‘Dangerous,’ ‘LOML,’ and the magnificent ‘Pray.’
However, the album could have done without ‘Change’ and ‘Sweet Love,’ despite the latter’s ability to surprise.
Psycho YP – Euphoria
Finally, ‘Euphoria’ appears to capture Psycho YP’s current frame of mind; a link between the joyful consequences of gaining money, the satisfaction that comes with achieving some of his goals, and the dualism of a rising ego.
It was YP’s seventh studio album in five years, and it served as a path back into his Trap roots, complete with Drill-infused songs.
This is his most brutally honest and vengeful moment yet, with elements from UK Rap music.
Laycon – Shall We Begin
The BBNaija winner’s debut album since leaving the reality program features 12 tracks. “And So She Spoke” opens the album and “And So They Spoke” finishes it.
Laycon’s previously released single “Fall For Me” featuring YKB is featured on “Shall We Begin.”
Mayorkun appears on “Verified,” Joeboy on “Kele,” Terri on “Jeje,” and Teni on “Want You Back” on the album.
Zlatan – Resan
Zlatan’s debut album, ZANKU, was released in 2019 and was largely forgotten.
Between his debut and sophomore albums, he released two EPs, but no one could have guessed the greatness of this one.
We should have known, though, because the high-level sonics of ‘Lagos Anthem’ gave us a glimpse inside his mind; we just didn’t take the cue.
AQ – GOLDEN
This is the best Nigerian album of 2021 in terms of purity and execution. It even generated a marginally commercial single in Chike’s ‘Breathe.’
GOLDEN is AQ’s best album, but God’s Engineering is his best.
With clarity, purpose, and sometimes essential enthusiasm, the record dealt with social issues, mortality, success, and hardships.
Loose Kaynon – Survivor’s Remorse
It’s incredible to listen to Loose Kaynon create such a high-quality record. He also demonstrates great skill by consistently creating high-quality hooks.
This isn’t a good album just because Loose is in his element or because he chose amazing beats.
It’s a fantastic record because Loose Kaynon sold a truth that people could readily believe.” He voiced his mind and received praise as a result.”
Loose Kaynon crowns this album with the title tune and ‘Opor,’ both of which have a great replay value.
D-Truce – Smoke Break
Smoke Break is a fantastic collection of work that showcases its creator at his best.
Truce has always worn his emotions on his sleeves, but this album is a cathartic exploration of adult themes.
“The album is victorious and engaging; dramatic and passionate; carefree and contemplative,” says the critic.
D-Truce is at the heart of it, chopping and screwing between many kinds of music while maintaining a delicate balance of lovely melody, gorgeous progression, and auditory delight.
Mohbad – Light EP
While Mohbad struggled to escape Naira Marley’s shadow at times, this EP had several redeeming qualities, the most notable of which was ‘Holy,’ a sociological commentary on his daily life.
