Tiwa Savage’s film ‘Water & Garri’ premieres May 10 | Watch the trailer
The trailer for Tiwa Savage’s directorial debut film, “Water & Garri,” has been released. Set to premiere on May 10, 2024, exclusively on streaming giant Prime Video, the film follows the journey of Aisha, an ambitious fashion designer who returns to her native country after spending a decade in the U.S. due to a family tragedy.
Directed by Meji Alabi, “Water & Garri” has been eagerly anticipated, with Tiwa Savage’s involvement dating back to 2021 when she curated the film’s soundtrack EP of the same name.
Featuring collaborations with Brandy, Amaarae, and Tay Iwar, the EP will also serve as the film’s soundtrack.
In the film, Tiwa Savage steps into the lead role of Aisha, alongside a talented cast including Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde.
For Tiwa Savage, this project represents a full-circle moment, as she returns to her acting roots following her earlier role in MTV’s “Shuga.” With “Water & Garri,” she embarks on a new chapter in her artistic journey, promising audiences a compelling blend of storytelling and music.
She said in her interview with ABC “I’ve always wanted to do acting. I’ve always wanted to do movies. Actually, that was my first love before music. So it felt like a full circle moment for me. I just felt it was time for me to finally get into that. I never wanted to let go of music, so it’s a great way for me to still embody that.”
