“I Don’t Think Love Is for Me in This Lifetime” — Tiwa Savage Opens Up on Heartbreak and Self-Reinvention
In a rare moment of emotional candour, Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage has opened up about her struggles with love, revealing that she has never truly experienced deep, unconditional love except in the bond she shares with her son, Jamil.
During a recent interview, the Afrobeats star reflected on her past relationships, stating that what she once believed to be love was, in hindsight, nothing more than infatuation.
“I don’t think I’ve been loved for a very long time. I don’t think I’ve experienced true love apart from my son. Every time I look back at my relationships, I realise it wasn’t love — it was just infatuation. At the time, I thought it was love though, but it wasn’t,” she shared.
Despite her efforts to find a soulmate, Tiwa admitted that the elusive connection has yet to materialize.
“I don’t think I’ve experienced that soulmate thing. I’ve tried over and over again. I don’t think love is for me in this lifetime,” she said, expressing a deep sense of emotional fatigue and disillusionment.

This isn’t the first time the singer has revealed a more tender side of herself. In a previous appearance on Beat FM, Tiwa confessed to having once shown up unannounced at a man’s house — an impulsive act she describes as the boldest thing she’s ever done for love.
“If I’m into someone, I’m really into that person,” she admitted. “I’ve pulled up at a guy’s house unannounced. I may not be as savage as people think.”
Now, with over a decade in the limelight and a career marked by soaring highs and public scrutiny, Tiwa says she’s entered what she calls her “phoenix era” — a period of transformation and emotional rebirth.
“I’ve gone through the fire, and I’m just getting out of it,” she declared. “It’s like a reinvention. I am coming out stronger — in terms of love, heartbreak, just where I am in life.”
