Why I feel God delayed my success – Tiwa Savage
The queen of Afrobeats, Tiwa Savage, opened up about the reason behind what she believes was the divine delay in her career success.
In an insightful conversation on The Receipts podcast, the 44-year-old Afrobeats queen explained that she feels God intentionally delayed her breakthrough for a greater purpose.
Savage reflected on her earlier years, saying she once wondered why success didn’t come her way in her twenties, but later realized that the delay had a meaningful purpose.
She shared that God’s timing allowed her to achieve success in her thirties, and she believes this journey is to inspire others, particularly women.
She continued, “It’s to bless that 25-year-old girl who’s scared about what the future holds. If she opens my page and sees that I started in my thirties, she would be like, ‘I still have time.’”
Through her story, Tiwa hopes to encourage those who might feel uncertain or behind in their pursuits, reminding them that success can come at any stage in life.

“When I came out, I was Nigeria’s sweetheart when I started and I could do no wrong in Nigerians’ eyes. I did everything by the books, I did everything by the books, you know, I went to university and I wasn’t a baby mama. I got married, then I had a baby so I did everything in the right order and everybody loved me and then everything happened.”
