Nigerian music superstar Tiwa Savage has opened up about how she managed to cope with the trauma of her leaked sex tape, describing it as the darkest period of her life.

In October 2021, the singer made headlines when an intimate video of her surfaced online, reportedly released by someone attempting to blackmail her. The scandal unfolded while she was also mourning the loss of her father, making the moment even more devastating.
Speaking with British media personality Zeze Mills in an interview published on YouTube on Friday, August 8, 2025, Tiwa revealed the one choice that helped her get through the ordeal: she simply refused to dwell on it.
“My dad died and my sex tape was released. The only way I could have survived was not to think about it,” she said.
Calling her appearance on the show “a blessing,” the All Over hitmaker said she was grateful to still have a platform to share her story after all these years.
“Just the fact that you even want to talk to me, people want to hear what I want to say after how many years… it feels good. I’ve gone through so much, but have I really enjoyed the moment?” she reflected.

The 45-year-old singer also used the interview to reflect on her personal life, admitting that what she once believed to be love in her past relationships, including her marriage, was, in hindsight, only infatuation.
“I’ve never felt true love except with my son. Looking back at my relationships, even my marriage, I realise it wasn’t love,” she confessed.
Tiwa went on to express doubts about ever finding lasting romantic love, saying repeated disappointments had left her questioning whether it was meant for her at all.
“Maybe love isn’t for me because I have tried over and over again, so maybe love isn’t for me this lifetime,” she said.
