    In a generation dominated by men, Tiwa Savage levelled the playing field for female Nigerian artistes.

    As a backup vocalist for Mary J. Blige and George Michael, Tiwa Savage began her illustrious career, and here is how she paved way for an industry dominated by men.

    The burgeoning success of the Nigerian music business spurred the enthusiasm and hunger of the Nigerian-British songwriter and former The X Factor contestant.

    Tiwa Savage inked a six-year contract with Mavin Records, in 2013, she released “Kele Kele” and “Love Me (3x)” as the main singles from her debut record, “Once Upon A Time.”

    Other singles on the album included “Olorun Mi,” “Eminado,” and “Without My Heart.”

    Tiwa Savage rose to prominence after the release of her debut album and held the title of a top female singer in Nigeria for almost ten years.

    She was the first female artist from Nigeria to be nominated for a BET award in 2014.

    She was the first female musician from Africa to win Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2018.

    Additionally, she is the first female performer from Nigeria to sell out 02 Indigo, one of London’s most prominent arenas.

    With “Temptation” and “Tanana,” she also received two NAACP Image Award nominations.

    Tiwa Savage has received multiple honours and written a number of successful songs, including “All Over” and “Ma Lo” with Wizkid and Spellz, which has received gold certification in Switzerland and is in the running for gold certification in the US.

    She also has singles like “Attention,” “Koroba,” and “Somebody Son,” to name a few, which include the brilliant Brandy.

    Over $1 million has already been made during her “Water And Garri” Tour in 2022 in 12 cities across North America.

    She led the “Afrobeat to the global movement” as a female Nigerian artist.

    She survived in a fiercely competitive music market, especially among her male rivals, thanks to her exceptional quality, originality, and constancy.

    With her music, Tiwa Savage unlocked numerous levels of excellence. She has effectively left her lasting imprint and levelled the playing field for female artists in a male-dominated generation.

    The new generation of female artists advanced to unprecedented heights of inventive evolution under her exceptional leadership.
