Tiwa Savage makes history as the first Nigerian artist to perform at a British coronation.
Award-winning Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage is scheduled to perform during the historic coronation of King Charles III of England.
The official coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, 2023. After his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away last year, King Charles III is assuming the throne.
The coronation concert and Big Lunch will take place on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
At the coronation concert, Tiwa Savage will perform alongside artists like Paloma Faith, Steve Winwood, DJ Pete Tong, Lang Lang and Lucy, and Olly Murs.
She becomes the first musician from Nigeria to be invited to perform at a foreign royal coronation.
She is the only Nigerian among the few African artists that were chosen to perform at the historical coronation.
In a statement, the organizers disclosed that Tiwa Savage was selected as one of the few African artistes to perform at the historical coronation concert.
“We are excited to announce that Tiwa Savage will be performing at the coronation concert alongside other world-class musicians. Tiwa Savage is an exceptional artiste with a unique blend of African and Western sounds. We are confident that her performance will add colour and excitement to the event,” the statement read.
Buckingham Palace has revealed plans for a festive celebration that would last for three days as this coronation include several notable events, such as a concert featuring famous celebrities at Windsor Castle, a series of street parties that will take place throughout the country and a volunteering campaign called “The Big Help Out”.
Recall that in the month of March, Mp3bullet.ng reported that Tiwa Savage visited the British Buckingham Palace as a part of the 2023 International Women’s Day celebrations on a global scale where she met the Queen Consort, Camilla.
Tiwa Savage, who was ecstatic about the visit, posted a photograph of herself and the Queen Consort, HRH Camila treating each other, at the royal palace on her Instagram page.
