Tiwa Savage bares her soul on new album “This One Is Personal”

Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage has unveiled her most vulnerable body of work yet with This One Is Personal, a 15-track project that follows her 2020 album Celia.

Released amid a flurry of heavyweight African music drops, including Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness and ODUMODUBLVCK’s surprise release, Tiwa steps away from the noise to deliver a deeply intimate record that feels more like a diary than just an album.

The rollout began on August 1 when Tiwa shared a striking visual on Instagram: seated on a pile of colorful mattresses, boombox in hand, hinting at the raw honesty the project would hold.

Recorded over two years in Nashville, Malibu, and Lagos, the album gradually built anticipation through singles like You4Me and On A Low featuring Skepta, both of which drew praise for their soulful R&B textures.

Running at 42 minutes, This One Is Personal blends Afrobeats, soul, and Afro-fusion into a cohesive sonic journey. Tiwa keeps collaborations minimal, making every guest appearance purposeful—Skepta on the dark-toned On A Low, Taves on the smooth Addicted, and James Fauntleroy on the touching Change.

Standout solo cuts include the emotive, piano-led “I’m Done” and the fiery “You’re Not the First (You’re Just the Worst),” each track showcasing Savage’s unmatched vocal strength and storytelling ability.

Executive produced by Tiwa herself alongside Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna and Mystro, the album carries an international polish without losing its personal edge.

Although some critics argue that the sparse features may limit its mainstream appeal, the project’s emotional depth gives it strong replay value and potential for long-term resonance. The next phase, its visuals, will determine how far this story travels commercially.

Now available across all streaming platforms, This One Is Personal is not just Tiwa Savage’s boldest statement yet—it’s her most human. Whether celebrated as a classic or debated for its stripped-down approach, one thing is certain: this album demands to be felt as much as it is heard.
