My wife was embarrassed by my car when we were dating – Timi Dakolo
Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo recently opened up about the amusing journey of meeting and winning over his wife, Busola, during an interview with Pulse Nigeria.
The couple’s love story began at a church event, and Timi’s charming persistence eventually led to their happily ever after.
Timi recalled his first impression of Busola: “I met my wife in church, and she was frowning. I said to myself, ‘This fine girl wey dey frown, I wan go meet her.’ I asked her to be my date to the ball we used to have in church. Then I asked for her number, and she gave it to me, but when I called, she didn’t pick up.”
Their friendship gradually blossomed, but Busola initially tried to keep things platonic—a move Timi firmly resisted.
“Every Sunday after that, I looked for her in the same spot. She told me her phone got stolen, so we became friends. She wanted to friend-zone me, but I said, ‘It can never be me.’ She wan turn me to Zonal Coordinator. I told her never! We just kept gisting, and I suffered in her hand o,” he said, laughing.
Timi also shared a funny moment from early in their relationship, recalling Busola’s reaction to the car he had won as the inaugural winner of ‘Idols West Africa’ in 2007—a branded Picanto.
“One day I went to pick her up in my Picanto, and she told me to park in a corner. I laughed and told her that I would shock her one day, and not to look down on me—and I did.”
