Nigerian King of Soul, Timi Dakolo has reacted to the proposed plan to change the name of Nigeria.
On June 2nd of 2021, reports of The House of Representatives’ Special Committee on Constitution Review receiving a proposal to change Nigeria’s name to the United African Republic went viral.
Adeleye Jokotoye, a tax consultant submitted the proposal stating that Nigeria’s current name was an imposition of its past colonial masters and should be changed.
He said a change of name for the country would physically and psychologically reflect a new beginning and that Nigeria is made up of hundreds of ethnic groups that need to be united.
“At this crossroads in our history, it is mandatory that we change our name to reflect a new beginning which will be ushered in with a new constitution,” he said.
He also suggested that Nigeria could also choose the United Alkebulan Republic (meaning: United Mother of Mankind Republic) as its new name.
Nigerians took to Social media to react to the news, most of them against the idea saying it won’t change anything.

In the comment sections, fans advised that the worst that could happen was for him to do another version of the song and change the lyrics.
