Timaya shares why he likes Portable.
Nigerian singer Timaya shared a humorous take on why he admires the controversial artist Portable, stating that Portable reminds him of his wild past.
In an interview with Channels Television, Timaya reminisced about the first time he encountered Portable’s music, particularly the hit track “Zazu Zeh,” and immediately saw similarities between them.
“I told 2face on the way to Delta State, ‘Have you heard that guy Portable? Zazu Zeh. That guy is just like me because I was a crazy guy,'” Timaya said, acknowledging that Portable’s rebellious and unpredictable nature resonates with how he once was.
Timaya further reflected on how today’s Gen Z audience might not fully grasp the wild side of his early career, as they tend to view him as calm and unproblematic now.

He commented, “These Gen Z’s don’t know. When I talk, people say, ‘Timaya minds his business,’ and I say, hmm. It’s now I have calmed down. I was really really crazy, hot like fire, but I think there’s growth. At the time it was a strategy for me.”
Addressing a long-standing rumor about having issues with military personnel, Timaya set the record straight. He explained that the story was false, noting, “The story about me having a negative encounter with military men is untrue. Why would I get involved with them? In whatever you do, you must apply wisdom or sense.”
He concluded by pointing out that, despite his wild behavior at the time, there was always a strategic approach behind it. Unlike many of his peers who were focused on love songs, Timaya, coming from the Niger Delta, stood out with a different style and attitude, which helped him rise in the music industry.
