Timaya accused of intellectual property theft over ‘Dey Your Dey’
Nigerian singer Timaya has been accused of intellectual property theft by music group United Boys Culture. The group alleges that Timaya’s latest release, “Dey Your Dey,” sampled their song of the same title without authorization.
In a video message on their TikTok page, the group’s leader urged Timaya to refrain from appropriating their intellectual property. This isn’t the first time Timaya has been accused of such actions, as the group leader cited a previous incident where he allegedly sampled their song “E Dey Sweet Us, E Dey Pain Dem” without consent.
Plagiarism is a dirty act/behavior and oga Timaya shouldn't be the one involved in such, if you can't write your song or think then pay people to do that. @timayatimaya pic.twitter.com/fU3Ft6kj0c

The leader appealed to Timaya to respect their rights and seek permission if he intended to remix their songs. As of now, Timaya has not responded to the allegations.
Apart from the accusations leveled against him, the Nigerian artist disclosed his battles with drug addiction. Timaya recently said in an interview with The Beat 99.9 FM that he first encountered narcotics in 2020, during the COVID-19 shutdown.
He acknowledged that he had used narcotics in the past, despite his imperfections. Timaya said that the substance felt quite nice when he first used it. Without really giving it much thought, he ended up giving away a large portion of his money.
