‘This Grammy no sweet’ – Timaya reacts as Nigerian artists miss out
Renowned singer Inetimi Alfred Timaya Odon, popularly known as Timaya, has expressed disappointment over the underwhelming performances of Nigerian artists at the 66th Grammys. Timaya lamented the snubbing of the Nigerian quintet, including Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Davido, Asake, and Olamide, at the prestigious awards ceremony.
As reported by Mp3bullet, the only non-Nigerian nominee in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category, Tyla, emerged victorious, leaving Nigerian artists without a win. Both Davido and Burna Boy faced further disappointment as they lost their nominations in the Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance categories.
Timaya’s sentiments echo the collective dismay felt within the Nigerian music community regarding the limited recognition at the Grammys, showcasing the broader conversation surrounding the representation and acknowledgment of African artists on the global stage.
Expressing his disappointment, Timaya wrote via his X handle, “This Grammys no sweet oo!”
