DJ Maphorisa’s assault case postponed again.
Renowned South African DJ, Maphorisa, also known as Themba Sonnyboy Sekowecame, has had his court date in the Randburg Magistrates Court rescheduled to August 25, 2023.
On Wednesday, July 26, he appeared in court to submit his representation to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). This development comes after the postponement of his case in June, as he needed to provide his legal representation to the DPP.
The charges against DJ Maphorisa stem from an incident of common assault reported by his estranged lover, Thulisile Phongolo, at the Sandton Police Station in North Joburg on May 7.
In May, Thuli withdrew the case, and DJ Maphorisa was granted bail set at R4,000. However, the musician’s legal journey is not yet concluded, as he awaits a decision from the DPP.
Before everything happened, DJ Maphorisa, an Amapiano producer and renowned Disc Jockey, boasts about his management of the South African music industry on Twitter, the musician pays tribute to himself and discusses his 15-year career in the music business.
Maphorisa claims that he manages the business end of the music industry properly and better and He went on to say that his astute decisions had led to the sale of some music enterprises to major record labels.
“Been producing music for 15yrs, it’s ok to give other kids a chance. Nobody in SA runs music business the way I do, I talk big numbers I created a new business module that made aggregators to sell they companies to Major Labels; Universal Bought Electromode, Warner Bought Afrocori, Apple Bought Platoon I shifted the market share, boss moves,” he wrote.
