Nigerian singer and producer Terry G has finally addressed the long-standing controversy surrounding his involvement in the 2009 hit single ‘Pass Me Your Love,’ originally owned by fellow artist AY.Com.

For years, Terry G, who was featured on the song has been criticized for frequently performing the track at concerts and events, with critics accusing him of hijacking the success of the record and overshadowing AY.Com’s contribution.

The debate, which has persisted for over a decade, recently resurfaced on social media, prompting a response from the ‘Free Madness‘ crooner.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Terry G dismissed the allegations as unfounded and rooted in ignorance.

“To those saying I stole ‘Pass Me Your Love’ from AY.Com, that’s pure ignorance. So I don’t have the right to perform a song I featured on? Your favorite artists do it all the time, but when it’s me, it becomes a problem. Hypocrisy at its finest,” he wrote.

Terry G further clarified that he never claimed ownership of the track and never included it in any of his albums. He attributed the lingering controversy to public misunderstanding rather than any deliberate wrongdoing on his part.

“Some of you ruined AY’s moment with your noise, not me. As for my shine, nobody can block it. You no reach,” he added.

In a more pointed remark, Terry G suggested that the controversy itself—not his actions—may have played a role in derailing AY.Com’s career, a comment that has since ignited fresh debate online.

    And no, I…

Fans remain divided, with some defending Terry G’s right to perform a song he featured on, while others argue that his prominence on the track contributed to AY.Com’s fade from the spotlight.

“Pass Me Your Love” was one of the standout hits of the late 2000s in Nigeria, and the renewed conversation is casting fresh light on one of Afropop’s most contentious collaborations from that era.
