Nigerian singer Teni added a touch of humor to Davido’s Grammy loss to South African artist Tyla by playfully shifting focus to the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match between Nigeria and South Africa.

On Monday, February 5, 2024, Teni shared her thoughts on Instagram, playfully cautioning South Africa’s football team about the impending challenge.

With a humorous tone, Teni warned that Nigeria’s football squad is geared up to make South Africa “dance amapiaono on the field” during the upcoming AFCON match on Wednesday. In a light-hearted manner, she attributed the potential mood shift in Nigeria to the Grammy Awards, humorously questioning whether they are trying to “kill our groove” and highlighting that there’s now an issue to address.

Teni said, “Wahala wa o, there’s a problem. Grammy wa o, we’ve had parties upon parties and we still have a party for tonight, we have many many parties. I personally have like 5 for tonight. Grammy, are You trying to kill our groove? See, South Africa, you are in for it. Osimhen over to you, Lookman, over to you. South Africa you will dance amapiaono on field. The sky is crying , Grammy whyyy?”

Teni’s post follows singer Davido’s disappointment as he failed to secure wins in all three nominated categories at the Grammy Awards. Tyla claimed victory in the African Music Performance of the Year category, adding to the letdown for Nigerian artists like Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr, who also faced losses in their respective categories.

The outcomes stirred diverse reactions from Nigerians on social media. However, Teni, known for her humor, has comically shifted her focus from the Grammy setbacks to the upcoming football match between Nigeria and South Africa, redirecting her energy in a lighthearted manner.
