Teni Apata honors late father’s memory on 30th death anniversary
Nigerian singer Teni has paid an emotional tribute to her late father, Brigadier-General Simeon Apata, on the 30th anniversary of his tragic passing.
Teni revealed that her father was assassinated on January 8, 1995, in front of their home, in the presence of his wife and children. Despite the painful memory, she celebrated his legacy with a heartfelt post featuring a collage of photos and a video highlighting his life and impact.
Describing him as a hero, Teni shared how her father was revered for his bravery, noting that he was feared by armed robbers and had neutralized many before his untimely death.
In a touching gesture, Teni also shared a picture of her father’s three wives, whom she affectionately referred to as “sisters” from different parts of Nigeria. Gladys Ify from Delta State, Margaret Olayinka from Ekiti State, and Margaret Folajogun from Ondo State reflected on the profound effect of their husband’s death during an interview with Gregory Austin Nwakunor.
Among her father’s lasting legacies is the Apata Memorial Nursery/Primary and Secondary School, an institution that continues to thrive with day and boarding facilities, symbolizing his dedication to education and community.
To mark the occasion, Teni posted a side-by-side photo of herself and her late father, showcasing their striking resemblance. This anniversary comes amid Teni’s journey of transformation, as she has openly shared her weight loss progress in recent months.
In the comments section of her post, Teni’s sister and fellow singer Niniola offered comforting words, encouraging Teni to see their father’s reflection in her own. Teni expressed deep gratitude, acknowledging the profound impact of her sister’s support during this reflective moment.
