Erik ten Hag gives Man United his stance on Mason Greenwood’s future.
Erik ten Hag has stated that he shared his opinion’ with Manchester United’s administration about Mason Greenwood’s future with the club.
Since he was accused of attempted rape, using coercive or controlling behaviour, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm in October of last year, United has suspended Greenwood.
Although the accusations against him were dropped in February, he remains suspended as United looks into whether the 21-year-old violated his contract by bringing the team’s reputation into disrepute.
Since Greenwood is still under contract, he was added on United’s retained list last month; nevertheless, the club claims that this has no bearing on the probe.
He last appeared for Manchester United on January 22, 2022, when he started in a 1-0 Premier League victory over West Ham.
Ten Hag is rumored to be unwilling to permanently offload the striker, hence Greenwood may be loaned away for the 2023–24 season.
Ten Hag has now spoken openly about the player ahead of Saturday’s pre-season friendly with Arsenal and said: ‘It’s a club decision and of course, I shared my opinions but it’s a club decision and we all have to accept that.’
Pushed if he wanted Greenwood to return to the United squad, Ten Hag added: ‘I can’t say so much about it but I shared my opinion about it, so let’s see what’s going to happen.’
As part of a deal to bring Rasmus Hojlund to United, Greenwood might be given on loan to Serie A team Atalanta, according to rumours.
In the meantime, Greenwood reportedly received a call from Jose Mourinho offering him a chance to play for Roma next season.
