Tems elaborates on her contribution to the Black Panther project.
Temilade Openiyi, a Nigerian musician better known by her stage name Tems, discusses how she got the Black Panther project and how she wrote the song for the late Chadwick Boseman.
The “Free Mind” singer, who also collaborated with Rihanna on her return single, “Life Me Up,” provided further insight into how it all came about in an interview with Power 105.1 FM.
She said;
I was recording and writing in general for Black Panther then we met up with then, they gave us a direction. There were some words already so we collaborated and we brought it together.

Tems collaborated on the song’s composition with Rihanna, Oscar winner Ludwig Gorranson, Ryan Coogler, and other notable writers.
The song will serve as the theme song for the mega-hit “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” film from Marvel. On October 28, 2022, the song—which was written as a homage to Chadwick Boseman’s life and work—was made public.
The Tems who was excited took to her Instagram page on Friday, October 28th, 2022, to speak of how grateful she was to have written the song. She wrote:
Blessed to have written this song in honour of Chadwick Boseman and even more blessed to hear the baddest @badgalriri voice it to perfection????✨
In response to her post, Rihanna lauded Tems for her pen game on the song. She wrote:
It’s the pen for me ????????❤️???????? love to you sistren
