How illness, surgery delayed my debut album – Tems
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has revealed that a “serious illness” forced her to delay the release of her debut album.
In a recent interview with the New York Times, Tems, who gained international fame in 2020 after featuring on Wizkid’s hit ‘Essence,’ disclosed that her debut album was initially scheduled for release in 2021. However, due to an unspecified illness that necessitated surgery and six months of recovery, the album had to be postponed.
During this period, Tems released her sophomore extended play, ‘If Orange Was a Place,’ instead. She explained that her battle to regain health partly inspired her new music, which she describes as embracing life as a warrior. This challenging experience has significantly shaped her artistic journey and the themes of resilience and strength in her upcoming work.
“Being a warrior is about not giving up,” she said. “Even if they cut your leg, you walk on your knees, you fight on your knees using what you have — and that’s good enough.”
Tems‘ much-anticipated and long-awaited debut album, ‘Born In The Wild,’ is set to be released on June 7. Alongside this milestone, she will embark on her first headline world tour starting in June. This tour will see the Grammy-winning artist perform in major cities around the world, showcasing her new music and connecting with fans on a global scale.
