Tiny Desk celebrates black music month with all-female lineup featuring Tems
In honor of Black Music Month, NPR Music’s cherished Tiny Desk concert series is highlighting female artists with an all-women lineup, including Tems.
Named “Giving Female Musicians Their Flowers,” this special series aims to honor the exceptional talent and contributions of black women in music.
Tems, renowned for her soulful, emotive vocals and genre-defying style, swiftly ascended to global fame with standout features on tracks like Drake’s “Fountains” and Wizkid’s “Essence.” With a Grammy win under her belt, she’s poised to set the music scene ablaze with her upcoming album.
The all-female roster underscores the breadth and richness of Black women’s musical influence, spanning R&B, hip-hop, jazz, and beyond. Joining Tems are Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Jazmine Sullivan, emerging sensation Doechii, and acclaimed jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant.
The Tiny Desk concert series, renowned for its intimate, acoustic performances, has long served as a platform for showcasing the raw talent and creativity of artists from diverse backgrounds. By devoting an entire month to celebrating Black women in music, NPR Music is amplifying voices that have often been overlooked or undervalued in the industry.
