I can’t go anywhere when I’m in Nigeria—Tems speaks on fame
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, has candidly discussed the challenges of fame and her inability to move around freely in Nigeria. She made these revelations during an interview on Power 105.1 FM in the United States.
Tems mentioned that in Nigeria, people are always observant, and as soon as she arrives, they tend to know where she is staying. She admitted that even in the United States, where she currently resides, she is noticed, but not to the extent that occurs in Nigeria.
She explained that Nigerians are particularly interested in drama and often seek to know what’s happening in a celebrity’s life. The radio presenter suggested that Tems could try disguising herself when going out in America, but she revealed that she had already attempted to do so and was still recognized.
Consequently, she no longer attempts to disguise herself when moving about in public.
Tems‘ comments shed light on the challenges of maintaining privacy and normalcy while being in the public eye, especially in a culture where celebrity scrutiny and curiosity are prevalent.
